观后感-女佣浮生录

Each kind of situation has its own solution.

You would never lose hope as long as you insist.

Inspired by Stephanie Land‘s memoir Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother’s Will to Survive. It just shocked me.

What A Helpless Situation!

A single mother —-

She has a alcoholic husband, a mother with mental problems, a three year old daughter and a abusive boyfriend.

Her life is just like a mess.

What makes me sad the most is that she could have gone to college and she had won a scholarship.

But just because of a man and an unexpected baby, she gave up that opportunity.

In my initial and traditional perspective, a girl is a child or a princess spoiled by her parents, at least before she enters the society and start working. But in the play, the woman could be considered to be shamed and failed. People would be shamed by her behavior and tell their children not to be like her.

​ And this woman and this TV series totally changed my pervious thoughts. You can always make it through as long as there is hope in your mind and there are some kind people who are willing to help you.

​ She accepted help from lots of people. That’s coincidence, but also for her character, she is diligent, sticks to her principles even live in other’s home, she keep in mind that she is accepting other’s help or charity. Her love for daughter impressed many persons.

​ At the beginning I think she could been had a better life, go to the college, hang out with her friends, meet a romantic love, find a decent job. She could do so many things that belongs to youth. Just due to the man and a baby, her life is ruined. But when she said: “Daughter is my life. “ I suddenly understood that she is happy and passionate for life just because of her daughter which is her whole world. I also understood mother’s power which should be respected by everyone.

​ When she got the scholarship again, she felt hope for the future. But her ex-boyfriend returned her car to another man and that means she can’t go to work, she can’t make money, so she also can’t go to college. Suddenly she lost all her hope and fell into despair. I was very worried for her at that time. And eventually, she resumed her spirit and made it through again due to her cute daughter, she took her daughter away, away that house full of alcohol and violence. She took her daughter run out of the cage which is in her mind. She showed me how powerful she is again, not only as a woman, but also as a mother.

​ In the end, when she drove to Montana with her daughter, drove to her future full of hope, that plot hit my heart.

​ She said: “I’m going to drive the fuck out of the town, I’m going to drive nine hours, 566 miles to Missoula, Montana, where I’m going to spend the next four years, learning to be a writer. Hopefully, there will be a lot of happy days during that time. And I know there will be hard ones. Most people would bet against a single mom putting herself through college. But they don’t know what it took to get here. Three hundred and thirty-eight toilets cleaned, seven types of government assistance, nine separate moves, one night on the ferry-station floor, and the entire third year of my daughter’s life. But, when we got to Missoula, I’m going to take Maddy(her daughter) up Sentinel Mountain, which looks over the town, and show her new home. I’ve been telling her all about the giant ‘M’ that’s at the tippy-top of the mountain. That the trail up there is long and zig-zaggy. The hike will be hard. But we’ll make it to the top. And when we do, I’m going to tell her that the ‘M’ stands for ‘Maddy’. That this is whole new world for her “
